DESCRIPTION: WW - Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Submariner, ref 1680, circa 1972, 42mm including crown guards x 47mm to lug tips, 20mm lug width, original 18K yellow gold screw back Oyster case with bi-directional blue diving bezel, 18K yellow gold Oyster bracelet with tuna can style clasp and fold over safety as well as diver's extension misspelled "pateted," refinished blue nipple dial with applied gold indices, date aperture at 3, 26J cal 1570, re-engraved s#3017022, triple signed with signed clasp, inside back ref 1680. Gross weight of assembled watch 98.3 dwt (153.1 g). An incredibly rare watch that has lived an incredibly hard life. This particular model has had its serial number and reference number polished off and re-engraved at some point as well as having its original dial refinished. Certainly not the best by any means but would make an excellent 18K gold "beater" Sub for the person who always wanted an 18K 1680 but didn't want to spend what one costs.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, very light spotting on rotor edge; refinished dial has aged similarly to other blue dial Subs of this era with light surface spotting; fine relumed Mercedes hands; polished case shows ample wear, still retains visible hallmarks, numerous dings on back of lugs, bezel, and case sides; bracelet shows ample wear, several links worn heavily; original Rolex signed crown shows light wear, good threads; good plastic crystal; resealed for auction.
ESTIMATE: $12000 - $20000
